Why it matters
Assume surveillance every single time
Don't become a predictable pattern
Minimize exposure time and data
Approach, transact, exit, disappear

Know the Risks

  • Expect CCTV, hidden cameras, and tracking
  • Inspect for skimmers and card overlays
  • Guard against shoulder surfing on the PIN
  • Watch for distractions that mask an attack

Pick the Location

  • Choose well-lit, high-visibility sites
  • Prefer machines inside banks or retail
  • Favor multiple exits and clear sightlines
  • Avoid alcoves, blind spots, and odd hours

Observe First

  • Scan the area before you commit
  • Note cameras, people, vehicles, and exits
  • Check for a tail with a natural loop
  • Trust your baseline before approaching

Control Presence

  • Move with purpose, no hesitation
  • Drop the headphones, head on a swivel
  • Avoid repeated glances and nervous tells
  • Keep body language unremarkable

At the Machine

  • Run a quick 360-degree scan
  • Stand close to limit exposure time
  • Shield the keypad with body and hand
  • Check for loose parts before inserting

Protect the PIN

  • Cover the keypad while you type
  • Avoid obvious, repeatable entry patterns
  • Inspect the slot for skimming devices
  • Keep the transaction short and deliberate

Finish Clean

  • Take cash and card without lingering
  • Skip the printed receipt
  • Secure money before stepping away
  • Leave no items or traces behind

Exit and Clear

  • Vary your departure route each time
  • Confirm you are not being followed
  • Change pace and direction naturally
  • Break any pattern an observer could read
